The first two episodes of House of the Dragon introduced us to many interesting characters. One of these characters is Mysaria. She is introduced as Daemon’s lover and future wife. However, she is much more than just an “ordinary whore” as Otto calls her. So, let’s explore Mysaria a little deeper. of
Who is Mysaria?
Also known as Lady Misery, Mysaria was a prostitute living in Westeros at King’s Landing. She was a slave of Lys in the Free Cities who was sold many times. Mysaria was also known as the White Worm because her skin was as pale as milk. However, her ethnicity on the show House of the Dragon is Asian. She eventually developed a connection with Prince Daemon and became one of his closest allies. She is a strong woman who forged her own path and fought against all adversities to have the life she has.
Mysaria in the House of the Dragon
Mysaria is revealed to be Prince Daemon’s lover in the First episode of the House of the Dragon. Eventually, Daemon is exiled from King’s Landing and forced to return to Runestone. However, he captures Dragonstone instead with his army of golden City Watch capes and with Mysaria right by his side. She accompanies him and even meets his dragon Caraxes. Then, during the second episode from House of the Dragon, Daemon has sent a letter to the King’s Council claiming that he is taking Mysaria as his second wife and will marry her that day, as is the custom in ancient Valyria. In fact, he also claimed that she was pregnant with his child.
However, in reality, this was just a ruse so Daemon could justify stealing a dragon egg from the Red Keep to put it in the cradle of his unborn child, as was the custom of the Targaryens. It was also a tactic to piss off King Viserys. Upon learning of Otto Hightower’s lies during the confrontation between him and Daemon, Mysaria became extremely angry with Daemon as he put his life in danger.
His future in House of the Dragon
During the Dance of the Dragons, Mysaria becomes an extremely important character on Rhaenyra’s side. She earned herself the title of Mistress of Whisperers by becoming Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s spymaster. She also aided the Daemon Prince as the Whisperer’s Mistress. In fact, Mysaria coordinated and planned the attack and resulting murder of Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, the eldest son of Aegon II Targaryen, by infiltrating the Red Keep, then successfully evading capture by escaping. . She was loyal and supported Queen Rhaenyra until the end. Mysaria acted as his advisor in several situations and even proved his intelligence and wit. In the books however, his death is quite tragic and somber, as is the custom in these books.
The show, though does not take place strictly according to the books. It becomes quite obvious when the news of her pregnancy turns out to be a lie. In the books, she is genuinely pregnant and even loses her child during a storm on the strait. Her future in House of the Dragon is definitely exciting and we’re sure there’s a lot more in store for her. But only time will tell, so stay tuned!
