Marvel’s new Captain America Anthony Mackie has said he hopes Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers alongside his MCU version of Cap.
Avengers: Endgame saw a time-traveling Steve Rogers living a life in the past with his WWII sweetheart, Peggy Carter, reappearing in the present as an old man. Steve then passed his iconic shield to Sam Wilson, bestowing him with the mantle of Captain America.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier charted Sam’s journey to the role of Captain America, and Anthony Mackie believes Sam should now be reunited with the original owner of his shield.
Speaking to Variety at D23 Expo, where much of the cast of Captain America: New World Order was announced, Anthony Mackie was asked if Marvel fans could see Chris Evans return as Steve Rogers.
Mackie revealed that he hoped to see Chris Evans return as Steve. He pointed out that Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan had to share the screen with their Falcon and the Winter Soldier co-star Wyatt Russell – once Captain America, now US agent – in Love at first sightsaying that if these two were to get together, he thought he should have another appearance with Evans.
Asked about the possible return of Steve Rogers, Anthony Mackie said:
“I hope so. You know, Chris is my boy, we all love and appreciate Chris. I’m very upset that they put Sebastian in a movie with Wyatt and left me out. There’s a lot going on So I’m like, if Sebastian has Wyatt, I should have Chris.
Anthony Mackie’s next appearance as Captain America in New world order will see him take on the Leader, played by Tim Blake Nelson, who is reprising the role for the first time since 2008 The Incredible Hulk.
Anthony Mackie last appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here is the synopsis:
