This week Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder debuted on Disney+ on September 8, following its theatrical release, as another MCU Phase 4 project. The film instantly saw plenty of fan success, fans who are already waiting for Marvel’s D23 presentation with gasping breath. Eagle-eyed fans instantly noticed some major changes to the CGI of the movie released on Disney+ as opposed to its theatrical version. Moreover, the latest release has returned the buzz for the movie among the fans. In this article, we will be looking at the details of the new locations featured in the movie such as – Omnipotence City, Moon Of Shame and Shadow Realm.

The City of Omnipotence

The City of Omnipotence

After his first confrontation with Gorr (Christian Bale), Thor decides to ask Zeus for help in defeating him. Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi) therefore decide to visit Omnipotence City. Home to a parliament of pantheons overseen by the king of the Olympian gods, Zeus (Russell Crowe), Omnipotence City is a floating city existing in a plane beyond normal space (similar to Asgard). The sequence featured various gods in the pantheons. Some of the gods credited with the scene are – Bao (god of dumplings), a Kronan god, Bast (an Egyptian god), Minerva (Roman god of justice), Artemis (Greek goddess of the hunt), Lady of Elche ( a pagan goddess), Kukukan (a giant Aztec snake god), Jademurai (a Japanese god) and a god of fur.

In the comics, the Omnipotence City is said to have been built by the lords of dawn, the first elder gods (or their progenitors) as a place of divine communion and governance, and as a bond of all gods. Going even further back in comic book history, soon after the God Seeds on life-bearing planets bore fruit, the various pantheons recognized each other across the cosmos. They met and together decided to create a permanent fortress city that would serve as a neutral space for all future generations of divine beings. Comics Thor: God of Thunder #3 stated that the city was built twelve billion years ago, while Mighty Thor (Vol.3) #12 changed four billion years ago. The city even has a eternal chamberwhich is nothing but the final afterlife for the gods.

moon of shame

The Moon of Shame

The Moon on which Thor, Mighty Thor and Valkyrie will face Gorr the Butcher God is known as the Moon of Shame. From the latest episode of another Disney+ special series called – Marvel Studio is assembled, which features behind-the-scenes footage of various Marvel projects, new details about the film have been revealed. It was revealed that the small moon that appears in the scene has a one-day duration of only 6 minutes. So the team had to shoot the scene with ‘Panel Lights’ on ‘The Volume’. According to them, this film is exclusively the first film in which light panels are used to this point. The scene therefore had a continuously moving light source behind the figures, which is nothing other than the rapid movement of a star behind the moon.

Shadow Realm

A shadow monster in the shadow realm

A realm in a galaxy of infinite darkness is – Shadow Realm. It is inhabited by various randomly shaped “dark” monsters that live only in darkness. The leaders of these monsters (presumably Kaa), get killed by the god Ra – the Sun God. Subsequently, the sword (necrosword) possessed by Kaa, calls Gorr and possesses his consciousness. Gorr is thus able to manifest and control different shadow monsters.

Marvel Comics presents the Shadow Realm as a two-dimensional realm inhabited by beings known as Soul Masters. These alien races, under the leadership of the warlord Kaa, aspire to extinguish all life and light on all planes of existence. Additionally, in the comics, Gorr used the Necrosword to create an entire planetoid at the edge of space, known as Black World of Gorr. This living abyss appears to have been reimagined as the Realm of Shadows in Thor: Love and Thunder described as a dimension of infinite darkness, where no color exists.

Marvel clearly seems to be going a very different route. Hilarious, the director of the film, Taika Waititi, said the shadow monsters were based on his young daughter’s designs. He had asked her to draw sketches of various monsters that she thought were scary for children like her and they served as the basis for his visual effects team.
