The Lord of the Rings: Rings is out and it’s taking the internet by storm. There are plenty of new faces, countless new mysteries, and an all-new mystery villain. But the question that plagued the minds of fans was why the legendary Elvin Smith wanted to build a forge tower. His motivation was to build this high tower just for fun, to listen or for other purposes.
Let’s find out.
Gil-galad believed that all evil had perished
Despite Galadriel’s repeated repetitions that corruption existed, High King Gil-galad clung fiercely to the belief that there was none. Elrond acknowledged that Galadriel was not someone who would behave prodigiously and that there was almost certainly some reality to what was found in his century-long quest, however, Elrond only had no choice but to obey his king.
Earlier, Gil-Gilad spoke with Elrond and warned him of his responsibilities. He had advised Elrond that it would be ideal for Galadriel and Middle-earth if she were to travel to Valinor, the Eternal Realm. Right off the bat, Elrond is honest with him that he doesn’t know if he made the right choice or not. He put Galadriel’s needs above his own when he made the decision to put duty before friendship.
Gil-galad arranged for Elrond to speak with the best living elven blacksmith, also called Calebrimbor. It was clear from the start that Celebrimbor was no commoner. Elrond has always been impressed by her talent and creativity.
The High King informed Elrond that the famous craftsman Celebrimbor was about to start a new business and asked for Elrond’s help.
Calebrimbor wanted his name etched in history as Feanor
Elrond accompanied the latter to Eregion. Celebrimbor said he aspired to make such an impression and convey such significance that his legacy would be immortalized alongside that of the mighty Feanor. Feanor had fashioned the silmarilsa kind of gem so beautiful that even the Dark Lord Morgoth was fascinated by it.
And Celebrimbor didn’t just stop at making gemstones. He aimed to create great things. He understood what he wanted, but how to get there was a mystery to him. As such, he enlisted the help of Elrond to build a tower capable of housing a forge with fire as bright as the sky and as fierce as a dragon’s mouth.
If successful, the forge could produce a marvel unprecedented in the history of the universe. Legend claims that the structure and the wonders he can do within it will allow them to change Middle-earth. Celebrimbor thought it wasn’t hard enough, so he fired another take. He hoped to complete it the following spring.
They felt they would need a larger labor pool than they had. The idea came to Elrond. He was planning on approaching his old pal who also happens to be the prince of the dwarf kingdom, and any fan of the show would know that the dwarves are expert workers and forgers.
