Daemon showed why he’s the best character in House of the Dragon

The pilot episode of “House of the Dragon” introduces us to a sleazy royal with a dangerously menacing appearance and a weak underbelly that leads him to do deeds the other members of the small council don’t like.

By the end of the most recent episode, viewers had no doubt that Daemon Targaryen was the show’s most captivating character. Daemon possessed the innate characteristics of a victor from the start, however, he was also driven into his change by the actions of those around him.

Daemon knew Otto’s intention and wanted to save Viserys

Otto Hightower didn’t like Daemon. He was well aware of Daemon’s reputation as a free spirit immune to persuasion and command. Otto cared deeply that Daemon would not succeed him in his role. The king’s influence was something he desperately sought, and he was willing to do anything to achieve it.

Otto took the opportunity to smear Daemon in Viserys’ eyes. Daemon was ordered to sail for Runestone after being exiled. Daemon also harbored resentments against his brother, however, he rarely expressed them until his exile. He had hoped that Viserys would one day appreciate his worth. However, this did not happen.

Daemon shared what he hoped for and what he wanted. He longed for Viserys to recognize him as the Hand of the King. The prince was well aware that the docile king was an easy target for the lords in council.

He had no doubt that Otto was a cunning guy who would do whatever it took to ensure his presence in Westeros. Daemon just hoped to protect Viserys from his own incompetence and weakness.

Snape but still respect his king

In the second episode, we see that the prince still had a lot of respect for Viserys when she visits Lord Corlys and accepts the latter’s offer to help her in her fight for Running boards. He assures Lord Corlys that Viserys and his differences give no one the right to manipulate those differences for their own ends.

Also, he expresses his displeasure with Lord Corlys’ criticism of Viserys. On the other hand, Viserys never acted in this way. He had completely forgotten that he had his own blood in the army, preoccupied as he was with his own concerns.

In the Stepstones War, Viserys never helped Daemon as well as Lord Corlys’ coalition. Daemon is deeply saddened by his brother’s decision who was busy celebrating his son’s birthday. Even his bones boiled with rage.

He wanted to talk, but no one was there to listen. He wanted to speak to Viserys and warn him that the king is a fool to trust anyone other than his family. When given the chance, those around him flay him for personal gain.

Daemon’s Unwavering Desire for Recognition

Because of this long-simmering animosity, Daemon, like his famous conquering predecessor Aegon, transformed into a savage brigand. A noble and magnanimous character was not what he had opted for; instead, he was gone for blood and blood. He had watched and prepared for his opportunity and was now going to seize it by force. He had been mocked, abused and ignored for years. He was so consumed with rage that he didn’t care about his own survival.

He was ready to die, but he refused to accept any help from King’s Landing. He was desperate to discredit him and show that he didn’t need his support. Whether or not he would be able to make peace with Viserys in the days to come was uncertain, but he was certain that something deep within him had changed. After three years of war, he had changed considerably from what he had been before the battle.

Daemon enters the Crabfeeder’s burrow as a soldier of the Targaryen dynasty but emerges as a warrior. In a cold and calculated act, he had dismembered the supreme commander of the Triarchy. Blood was stuck to his features. His Targaryen blood was supposed to be thick and deep. He held his Valyrian blade, dark sister, in the accursed country, next to a heap of corpses.

Daemon didn’t even utter a single word in episode three, however, his wild and vicious expression showed us that this brutal conquest is the best character we’ll ever see in the House of the Dragon.
