Giancarlo Esposito Clarifies Why He Wasn’t In Marvel’s ‘Loki’

After previously revealing that he had been approached for a role in the Marvel Disney Plus series LokiGiancarlo Esposito has clarified the reason why he did not appear on the show.

Loki followed the variant version of Loki introduced in Avengers: Endgame, who escaped the aftermath of New York’s battle with the Tesseract. This saw him working with the Time Variance Authority and encountering alternate versions of himself from rogue timelines.

It looks like one of those other Loki variations was almost played by Giancarlo Esposito. After earlier reports suggested Esposito turned down the role, possibly in hopes of landing a part in a Marvel movie instead, the actor has now clarified that he simply wasn’t. selected.

During an appearance at Rose City Comic-Con, Giancarlo Esposito opened up about talks he had with Marvel about a role in Loki and how he ultimately didn’t land the role.

The breaking Bad star revealed that although Marvel did not choose him for the role in Loki, this led him to consider pursuing a film role in the MCU. He’s definitely an actor many fans would love to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s already introduced himself as Marvel’s new Professor X.

Speaking of Loki casting process, Giancarlo Esposito said:

“The truth of the story is this. About four years ago I met Louis D’Esposito who [is] in Marvel’s television unit. And they had come to me to maybe play Loki on the TV side. And so I didn’t [that part], and there were reasons for that. I think it was not me who was chosen [would] be the honest truth. But maybe I would have liked to…

“And then I thought when I wasn’t selected for this, how great would it be if I could be in a Marvel movie, not just a TV show because I love movies a lot. I love TV , obviously I had a great run in the world of television, last year it was four shows at a time and the year before five shows.

Given Giancarlo Esposito’s incredible screen presence and impressive career to date, it feels like giving him a one-off role in a TV series – probably as one of the variants of Loki encountered in the Void towards the end of the series – could have been a waste. of an actor with the potential to bring a much bigger MCU role to life on the big screen.
