Early life

On December 9, 1991, Rakim Hasheem Allen was born in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Allen’s mother was primarily responsible for his upbringing because his father was killed when Allen was only three years old. During his teenage years, he spent most of his time in the northeast section of Philadelphia. He was raised on the music of R&B group Jodeci as well as rap artist Tupac. Allen was placed in a juvenile program after committing a series of robberies and getting into fights at school when he was 13. After being convicted of drug possession and other crimes, he was sentenced to 33 months in prison at the age of 19. After being released from prison, Allen spent a brief period without a home. He did not finish high school. Later in his career, Allen chose to perform under the stage name PnB Rock. This name is a tribute to the intersection of Pastorius and Baynton, which is located near the neighborhood of Germantown in Philadelphia, where Allen spent his childhood.

PnB Rock announced the release of his first mixtape, titled Real N*gga Bangaz, on June 24, 2014. While behind bars, he composed the songs that would appear on the mixtape. PnB Rock entered into a record deal with Atlantic Records in 2015, and under the guidance of the company, he released his debut project dubbed RnB3, which is his third mixtape. The mixtape was released under the Atlantic Records label. He released a popular single titled “Selfish” in June 2016.
