Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther became a monumental success as it scored big with critics and audiences alike. The director made sure the film was unique while fitting into the overall MCU narrative by bringing in collaborators from his previous films, Creed.

With the sequel to Black Panther close to release, Marvel has already started working on the production of Avengers: Secret Wars. Rumor has it that the Russo brothers lead the avengers installment, but Kevin Feige confirmed they would not be included, opening up possibilities for other directors.
Ryan Coogler for Avengers: Secret Wars?
Considering the next two avengers the installments are pretty huge, MCU probably intends to go with the directors they trust. Shang ChiDestin Daniel Cretton is already set to direct Avengers: Kang Dynasty and new rumors suggest that Ryan Coogler will direct the next one.

As noted in an episode of The Weekly Planet Podcast, news regarding the Secret Wars was revealed, which included the possibility of Ryan Coogler directing the avengers Payment. Podcast host James Clement said:
“And Ryan Coogler, here’s another scoop, Mason, who is at least one of the directors, is currently in talks for Secret Wars. Which makes a lot of sense and yes, the source says here, it’s a reliable source , this person says “pretty obvious choice. And it is. It makes sense.”
This obviously doesn’t rule out other directors, but Marvel might prefer to stick with directors they’ve worked with before, including James Gunn, Taika Waititi, Jon Watts, and more.
Is Ryan Coogler the right person for the job?
Despite a few hiccups in Phase 4, Marvel generally made good decisions when selecting the creative team for their movies. On the other hand, Ryan Coogler has had incredible success under the Marvel tent, earning over $1 billion with Black Panther.

The director is already working on the Stone heart for Disney+, with its company Proximity Media involved in the production of the series. So it seems that Marvel and Kevin Feige trust Ryan Coogler’s cinematic acumen, justifying his selection for Secret Wars.
Avengers: Secret Wars is due out in November 2025.
