Korg in World War Hulk
The appearance of Smart Hulk in She-Hulk showed a clear connection with the planet Sakaar. Since then, fans have theorized that the MCU is teasing a future Hulk movie that will revolve around the World War Hulk plot. We last saw the planet Sakaar during Thor: Ragnarok. And along with the Hulk, there were a few other characters that we were introduced to. They were the Grandmaster’s champions. This is how we met Miek and Korg. Now, with rumors circulating regarding Marvel gets the rights to the Hulk from Universal Studios, it’s become even clearer that a sequel to The Incredible Hulk will be announced soon enough. So let’s explore what role Korg, the Kronan Stone Pile will play in the World War Hulk storyline.
Who is Korg?
Korg was introduced to the MCU during Thor: Ragnarok. When Thor found himself on the planet Sakaar after the arrival of his sister Hela, he was forced to participate in gladiator-style battle against the Grandmaster’s chosen champion. Fun fact, Korg is voiced by none other than Taika Waititi, the director of Thor. Here we met Korg and Miek. Korg was a Kronan warrior born on the planet Ria. Since Ragnarok, he accompanies Thor in all his adventures. During Thor: Love and Thunder, he reveals how he was born. Two Kronian men met in a cave in Ria and held hands for a birthing ritual. And so Korg was born.
Eventually, he was given to an adoptive mother who raised and cared for him. While on the spaceship taking him home, they were deflected by a wormhole. The ship including his brother Margus and several Kronan soldiers crash landed in a desert on the planet Sakaar. It was there that he became a slave to the Sakaarian Empire and the Grand Master. As we already know, here he became a gladiator. Tragically enough, his first fight was against his brother Margus whom he had to kill.
World War Hulk Scenario
The World War Hulk story is one of the most beloved and famous Hulk stories in Marvel comics. The story really explores what the Hulk’s wrath can accomplish. He sees the green monster unleashing all his rage on Earth, even battling some of his closest friends in the process and causing wanton destruction. It all started when the Hulk was exiled from Earth by the Illuminati and ended up on the planet Sakaar. Here he plotted his revenge. He blamed the Illuminati for the deaths of his wife and child and vowed to return to Earth and kill them all.
His role in World War Hulk
When Korg ended up on the planet Sakaar, he was placed on Hulk’s team. Over time, they become close friends and allies. Even in the MCU, Korg and Hulk know each other and have many adventures together. So Korg obviously helped his friend free the Sakaarans from their Emperor. He survived the planet’s destruction and escaped with the Hulk. Korg was Hulk’s most trusted ally, and he accompanied Hulk to Earth to help him get revenge against the Illuminati. As the Hulk was determined to destroy New York City, Korg tried to communicate with the people and save them from the Hulk’s rage as he didn’t want to see innocent civilians being killed. However, after the death of one of his allies, Korg also became aggressive and threatened law enforcement. Later, he also helped thwart the evil boss’s evil plans.
The unlikely friendship between Korg and Hulk lasted until the end when Bruce Banner passed away. After learning of her death while with the Warbound, he immediately returned for Banner’s funeral. He even said a few heartfelt and beautiful words in her honor. He said that while the Hulk wanted to be alone, he had made enough friends along the way to make them part of his family. So hopefully if a World War Hulk movie is made in the future, Korg will be part of it!
