Early life and education
Ana was raised in New York by her father, Angel Ortiz, who is a Puerto Rican-born politician best known for being the first Latino man to join the Philadelphia City Council, and mother Kathleen Kulhman who is a homemaker. After the ballet became too much for her feet and the pain was unbearable, Ana decided to focus on something else and opted to act and sing. She enrolled at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, and after enrolling at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater in 1993.
