When The Rock claimed that black adam would establish a new hierarchy, it was assumed that the actor was talking about the DC Extended Universe. But now, with a new short version of the teaser, the anti-hero seems to be making a thunderous statement that echoes even through the halls of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With black adam making more waves than MCU right now, fans are wondering if the subtle dig is meant to be a declaration of war or a show of respect.

black adam Introduces the Thunderclap to the DCEU
If The Rock’s presence wasn’t already a damning statement, his on-screen persona now adds a touch reserved only for special occasions among the comic fandom. marvel’s The Incredible Hulk was the first film to cinematically depict the thunderclap in live action. Ever since then, the Hulk’s incredible power move signature has always seemed absent from every battle. But not anymore.

The DC Extended Universe, DCEU for short, quickly jumped at the chance to rush in for a moment and borrow the iconic attack strategy and put it to use in Black Adam. The Rock does more than just use thunderclap in combat. In a teaser titled Darknessthe resounding move offers a throwback and homage to the Hulk’s strength from the original comics.
The Power of Thunderbolt: Hulk vs. Black Adam
The power the thunderclap possesses is often overwhelming enough to knock down a block within its radius. In the original comics, the move was used quite often by the Hulk to disorient his enemies in the heat of battle. The force of the thunderclap has been described as so strong that its sound has been compared to that of a sonic boom. Additionally, the clap was also able to create gusts of wind that would rival the most powerful hurricanes or extinguish everything down to a blade of grass in its aftermath.

However, given the realistic setting of the MCU, a move as strong as a thunderclap wouldn’t be logistically possible, since battles always take place in the middle of a city. Leveling up blocks of metal and concrete and turning it all into rubble wouldn’t be considered Green Avenger heroics. The only time the Hulk executes him in battle is to put out a fire that was meant to engulf a helicopter that General Ross and Betty Ross had been trapped inside. But the force of the blow was just strong enough to extinguish the flames.
In black adam, the setting for the thunderclap was a barren desert, perfect for executing such a strong power move. Additionally, not only does the hit immediately take out dozens of soldiers at once, but the cinematic rendition of Black Adam performing the hit gives it a sonic wave-like quality as it permeates the attack beam. If the DCEU does indeed make this the signature anti-hero move going forward, it wouldn’t be too bad to see the power move finally be executed with the precision and perfection it deserves.
black adam premieres on October 21, 2022.
