It seems that criticism towards Halle Bailey and her next film The little Mermaid won’t stop any time soon. The actress is supposed to play the role of Ariel, Disney’s red-haired mermaid who falls in love with a human.

Many fans, as well as celebrities, are expressing their excitement for the film and Bailey’s casting. However, there are still trolls who would wholeheartedly question the decision to cast Ariel as a black mermaid when she is “supposed to be” a white character.

The Bashers Are Still Upset About The Cast of The Little Mermaid

Of course, those comments really piqued a lot. For someone who loved to watch The little Mermaid Growing up, working on her music career, and charting her own path in a world where everyone favors light-skinned people, Bailey needed all the support she could get.
The actress was 18 when she auditioned for the role, and the nasty comments never stopped even after production wrapped. She wonders how this experience has changed her life. In an interview with Varietyshe says, “I find myself learning things from these characters and trying to embrace them and keep them with me throughout my life. It’s like the universe is trying to give me these themes, like ‘Here, do it! We put it through the characters.”
While the cast and crew praised her performance in The little Mermaid, many haters would stick to their opinions and post #NotMyAriel all over social media. Now fans have another way to support black actors as they campaign for Idris Elba to take on the lead role in the upcoming james bond film.

And I should vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy.”
