House of the Dragon’s most cunning characters
House of the Dragon gave a bunch of interesting characters. Some are smart while others are reckless. But in typical Game of Thrones fashion, the characters are as cunning and devious as they come. Here’s our list of the most cunning characters in House of the Dragon.
1. Ser Otto Hightower
The former Hand of the King and ardent supporter of Aegon II Targaryen, Ser Otto Hightower should have been at the top of our list. He’s been a cunning player since the first episode of House of the Dragon, and his actions have mostly gone unnoticed by the King. After Queen Aemma died, he cared for Alicent and made her the wife of King Viserys. Otto Hightower’s conversation with Alicent in the rain also helped turn her against Princess Rhaenyra and start the Dance of the Dragons. He uses Mysaria and her network of child spies to do his bidding. Without a doubt, Otto Hightower is the most cunning character in House of the Dragon.
2. Lord Larys Strong
We just saw Lord Larys Strong take a huge step in House of the Dragon episode 5. It made Alicent aware that Grand Maester Mellos served Princess Rhaenyra tea because she was sick the same night Daemon returned to King’s Landing . Lord Larys will play a very important role in the upcoming Dance of the Dragons as he will become a fierce ally of the greens. He observes and notices everything that happens in the Red Keep and is extremely cunning in his ways.
3. Demon Prince Targaryen
At first glance, Daemon Prince Targaryen may seem like a rebellious, reckless man who is all brawn and brainless. But he is much more cunning and clever than that. While his actions aren’t at all subtle, his motivations are definitely layered and multifaceted. Ever since he took Rhaenyra to Silk Street and took off her disguise to kill Lady Rhea Royce, he always has something up his sleeve. In fact, after killing his wife, not only was he able marry someone else but he also inherited Runestone, all at once.
4. Lady Mysaria
Mysaria rose from nothing and became the mistress of the whisperers and one of Princess Rhaenyra’s strongest allies. This happened because she was cunning, resourceful, and smart. She used her connections and wits to rise through the House of the Dragon ranks and established a remarkable spy network of low-key children.
5. Lord Corlys Velaryon
The sea serpent, Lord Corlys Velaryon is an extremely cunning and intelligent man. At each step, he used his wits to strategize and come up with a plan that would move him forward in his quest for power. As soon as he aligned himself with Daemon to fix Lady Laena’s marriage to the son of the Sealord of Braavos, his moves created ripples in the King’s Little Council.
6. Queen Alicent’s High Tower
While Queen Alicent Hightower hasn’t quite grown into the incredibly cunning and clever character she is in the books yet, she’s already started her journey by showing up in a green dress at Rhaenyra’s wedding in the House of the Dragon. Eventually, she will even hide the king’s death in order to further Aegon’s claim to the throne.
7. Craghas Drahar
We only saw a little Craghas Drahar in House of the Dragon, but he was a force to be reckoned with. He led the Triarchy troops very well and used his wits to escape the wrath of the Targaryen dragons by hiding inside the caves. The only reason he was defeated was because Daemon Targaryen is a madman who was willing to walk right into the enemy’s mouth and kill them all on his own.
8. Ser Joffrey Lonmouth
Joffrey Lonmouth appeared very briefly in House of the Dragon but he seemed like a pretty cunning character. He was smart enough to understand that Princess Rhaenyra’s lover was his. sworn protector, Ser Criston Cole. Then he sneakily went to Ser Criston and hinted that he knew about him and Rhaenyra and that the best course of action would be to protect each other’s secrets.
