House of the Dragon episode six continued the story of the central characters introduced to us before. However, there was an addition of a new character. He is Prince Reggio of the Free City of Pentos. It was introduced to the public by Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon. Prince Reggio is played by Dean Nolan in House of the Dragon. So let’s explore who he is and what role he could possibly play in Targaryen’s future Civil War, Dance of the Dragons.
Prince Reggio in the episode House of the Dragon
With the ten year time jump, we see that Prince Daemon took another wife after the death of Lady Rhea Royce. He married Laena Velaryon and has two beautiful daughters with her. Daemon and Laena also left King’s Landing and Driftmark. Instead, they chose a life of adventure and found themselves in Pentos where they helped Prince Reggio fight his enemies with their dragons.
In the episode, we see Prince Reggio making a pretty lucrative offer to Daemon and Laena. He asks them to stay in Pentos and help him strengthen the city’s defenses. After all, who wouldn’t want three dragons defending their kingdom? In return, Prince Reggio offered Daemon and Laena a life of prosperity. He would give them all the wealth, gold and horses they needed to lead lavish and luxurious lives. In fact, Prince Daemon wanted to accept this offer while Laena wanted to return to Driftmark and live like royals, like they were supposed to.
Explore the Prince and his story
Prince Reggio rules over the Free City of Pentos in Essos which is one of the most ruthless cities. Prince Reggio was chosen to be their prince in one of the Forty Great Families, after a number of fanciful displays. He is the prince although he has a council of wealthy magisters who help him in this regard. Meanwhile, Prince Reggio was throwing parties and hosting other powerful allies from all over, including Daemon and Laena. It is a very rich kingdom because it holds the monopoly of trade and ships pass through it daily crossing the Strait. Other than that, not much is mentioned about Prince Reggio in the books. In fact, in Fire and Blood, the prince remains an unnamed host of Daemon and Laena. Nevertheless, House of the Dragon could go in a different direction.
His role in future episodes
While Daemon initially considered Prince Reggio’s offer, after the death of his wife Laena Velaryon, he likely won’t stay in Pentos. The duty of his two daughters also falls on him. He must raise them and be their father. Daemon will also seek another suitable match and marry a third time. If you’ve read the books, you’ll know he marries Rhaenyra. So naturally he won’t stay at Pentos. Nevertheless, he gained an ally in the person of Prince Reggio Haratis. After all, he came to her aid in times of need. While in the books he doesn’t play any part in the Dance of the Dragons, the show could move in a different direction. Black people need all the help they can get. And with the resources and wealth of Pentos, Blacks would definitely be strengthened. After all, the Greens have already started playing along after Lord Larys killed Ser Harwin Strong, Rhaenyra’s fiercest ally. This is all conjecture, only time will tell what happens next!
