Dragon House Co-creator Ryan Condal has spoken about his co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik’s sudden exit from the series.

Last month it was revealed that Dragon HouseMiguel Sapochnik’s co-showrunner was stepping down as co-director of the series. At the time, the producer/director hinted at a desire to move on to other projects. Now, the show’s co-creator and co-lead has addressed the issue.

Ryan Condal speaks out

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Condal discussed Miguel Sapochnik’s departure, citing that he had been with the franchise for a very long time and said everything he wanted to say in-universe:

“That was definitely on Miguel’s mind. “He’s definitely been living in Westeros for a very long time. I was always potentially aware that he may have just put this season on its feet and had the feather in his cap to do a show that he co-directed and helped design, cast and to directing, compared to the original series where he definitely became a producer at the end, was definitely I think [Thrones showrunners] David [Benioff] and Dan [“D.B.” Weiss]the most trustworthy filmmaker, but not in the way he was in House of the Dragon. So it was always in the back of my mind.

I think at the end he felt like he said what he had to say. He’s an extremely talented filmmaker, which is clear from the work that everyone sees and will continue to see with episodes 5 and 7. I think he still has a lot of stories left to tell. And honestly, as a fan of his, I’m excited to see where he goes next.

Despite stepping down as co-showrunner, Miguel Sapochnik will continue to serve as the series’ executive producer. He will continue to work for HBO but has not currently announced any plans. game of thrones Veteran Alan Taylor is also returning to the franchise as an executive producer and directing several episodes.
