No matter how much we criticize the costume change in Thor: Love and Thunder, it was kind of necessary to progress Thor as a character. Marvel designer Andy Park revealed the very reason Thor had a wardrobe crisis in a recent interview with Screen Crush-

This one was difficult just because of his nature. It’s what we called “the Extreme Thor”. So that’s as far as we can go. So myself and the other artists, we were pushing – mostly because we work with Taika and he wants to push us as far as possible, even to the point that you laugh watching him. You have to go where it is. Then once they start to like my direction, from then on I do version after version to polish all the elements. He had a version that was supposed to be more watered down; we made it up “The Dim Version” and then from there he sees Jane and he transforms. He gets a little insecure.

Thor’s reunion with his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster is revealed to have been the reason for the costume change. Everything was done to compensate for his insecurities leaking at the sight of Foster, who wielded the hammer and wore a costume similar to Thor’s.

In a recent interview with Inverse, it looks like the 48-year-old actor intended to bring all those years of experience to the more homely environment. Thor: Love and Thunder.

The actor spoke to Inverse about filming R-rated scenes for the film which were later dropped-

“Taika and I kind of knew that some of the things we were doing probably wouldn’t end up in the movie, but we just wanted to push and see. Ultimately, it is and should be a movie the whole family can enjoy. And Chris Hemsworth, a few times he looked at me, it was like, Man, that’s a little too far. I don’t think anyone wants to see this unless it’s an R rated movie. but it was a great joy to give it a shot. And we had a lot of fun doing certain scenes and making certain scene choices, even though they didn’t end up in the final cut.

Bale’s words informing us of the deleted R-Rated scenes make me want to see those scenes even more, but it’s completely understandable that those scenes never made it into the final cut – those kids would have been scarred.

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently available to stream on Disney+.
