On May 25, 2013, Uras played his first game as a professional for the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League. He made his league debut at an early age. Later, Uras was promoted to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he made his major league debut on May 27, 2016 against the New York Mets.

MLB debut

He made his Major League debut at age 19, becoming the Dodgers’ second-youngest starting pitcher since Rex Barney, who made his debut at age 18 in 1943, and the youngest since Félix Hernández in 2005. Against the Cubs of Chicago on June 2, Uras made his second start where he pitched five innings, allowing six runs, including three home runs. He hit four while allowing eight hits.

When he started Game 4 of the 2016 National League Championship Series, he broke the record for the youngest pitcher to create a postseason play. He allowed four runs in just three and a half innings of the game. Uras was not selected for the Dodgers’ opening day in 2017, but instead went through extended spring training.

While pitching for Triple-A Oklahoma City in June, he tore the anterior capsule in his left shoulder, ending his 2017 campaign and requiring surgery. Uras only entered minor league rehab after recovering from his injury for most of the 2018 season. During the regular season, he made three appearances for the Dodgers and pitched four scoreless innings in September.

Domestic violence allegations

He was supposed to start the 2019 season in the bullpen to limit his innings in the early weeks, but because of injuries to Rich Hill and Clayton Kershaw, the season started with him in the rotation instead. Due to a domestic violence investigation, Uras was granted paid administrative leave on May 14. Later, Urias received a 20-game suspension on August 17. To avoid arbitration, Uras and the Dodgers agreed to a one-year, million-dollar contract for 2020.

He started all 11 games of the pandemic-shortened 2020 season for the Dodgers, going 3-0 with a 3.27 ERA. In Game 4 of the 2020 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Uras opened the game and pitched 4.2 innings while allowing two runs on four hits and nine strikeouts. In Game 6, Uras came on in the seventh inning and pitched two and a third shutout innings to earn the stoppage. He was also pitching when the Dodgers successfully defended their crown.

best season

To avoid arbitration, Uras and the Dodgers agreed to a one-year, $3.6 million contract for 2021. For the first time in his career, Uras started more than 20 games in one season, and he had his most notable season. He finished 2021 with the league’s best record, a 2.96 ERA, 185 2/3 innings pitched, 195 strikeouts and 32 starts.

In his second season of salary arbitration, Uras agreed to a one-year, $8 million contract with the Dodgers for the 2022 season. Uras retained his spot in the Dodgers’ starting rotation by maintaining his strong performance as a the previous year.
