House of the Dragon Episode 6 jumped forward 10 years in time. We got to see Rhaenyra’s three children – Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey Velaryon and Alicent and Viserys’ children – Aegon, Aemond and Helaena Targaryen. However, in the book Fire and Blood, Alicent and Viserys have 4 children. The youngest child was their third son, Daeron Targaryen. But in House of the Dragon episode 6, he is nowhere to be found. Her birth was in the same year as that of Rhaenyra’s eldest son, Jacaerys Velaryon. This would make Daeron as old as his nephew Jacaerys who was almost a teenager at the time. So why is he absent in House of the Dragon? Let’s see if we will see him in the series and if so, when.
Where is Daeron Targaryen in episode 6 of House of the Dragon?
The absence of Daeron Targaryen from Episode 6 of House of the Dragon was noted and questions arose as to where he might be and if he would appear in the series. Some have said that Daeron Targaryen will not be part of House of the Dragon and that the series will deviate from the book in this regard. But it seems unlikely that the show will completely ignore an entire character, especially one of Alicent’s sons who plays an important role during the Dance of the Dragons. Fortunately, we have a much more plausible explanation for its absence.
In the books themselves, Daeron was sent by his mother, Alicent, to Oldtown. Here he served as cupbearer and squire to Lord Ormund Hightower who was a cousin of Alicent. She did this with the idea of further anchoring support for the greens in her mind. Daeron has been described as a much sweeter and kinder boy than his other brothers Aegon and Aemond. So Alicent, shrewdly enough, sent him to Oldtown to antagonize him against Rhaenyra and her sons.
Who is Daeron?
The fourth and youngest child of Alicent Hightower and King Viserys was Daeron Targaryen. He was their third son. Daeron was said to have a very calm temper and was considered the gentlest of his brothers. Despite being popular and nice, he never mattered much to Aegon and Aemond. Despite several attempts by King Viserys to crush the enmity between Rhaenyra and Alicent to pass on to their children, Daeron did not mix well with his nephews. The closer they were and forced to spend time together, the more the enmity grew between them.
Despite his gentle nature, Daeron was no less of a warrior than his brothers. He also had his own dragon called Tessarion. He had a very special bond with his dragon. Ormund Hightower even named him Daeron the Bold after saving the greens in battle with his dragon Tessarion. He was even humble enough to dedicate his victory to Tessarion.
What role will he play in the Dance of the Dragons?
We will definitely see Daeron Targaryen in later episodes of House of the Dragon and even in Season 2 during the Dance of the Dragons. He plays a pretty big role during the Targaryen Civil War and helps the Greens win several battles. He and Tessarion helped Ormund Hightower and the Greens escape defeat at the Battle of Honeywine, which was territory under House Beesbury who were followers of Rhaenyra. Daeron had managed to bring several houses to their knees and force them to the greens to escape Tessarion’s wrath.
During the war, he was a great warrior and showed no mercy to those who opposed him and his family. After Aegon’s disappearance and the death of his brother Aemond, Daeron was next in line for the throne and was to become heir. However, he died suddenly and obscurely on the battlefield and his body was never found. Due to the uncertainty regarding his death, many men have come to King’s Landing claiming to be Daeron Targaryen. Nevertheless, after his death he was honored by his brother Aegon, with the erection of a statue at King’s Landing.
