Barry Keoghan Wants To Return As The Joker After ‘The Batman’ Cameo

Barry Keoghan has expressed interest in reprising the role of the Joker after appearing as the character in The Batman.

Earlier this year, The Batman featured the start of a new version of the Joker, with 29-year-old actor Barry Keoghan playing the role of the Clown Prince of Crime. Best known for his work in the film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Chloé Zhao’s Marvel Cinematic Universe movie EternalsKeoghan is the seventh actor to play The Joker in a live-action format, and the third youngest to do so after Heath Ledger and Cameron Monaghan.

Despite The BatmanWith a massive runtime of 176 minutes, Barry Keoghan only had one scene in the film as the Joker. Director Matt Reeves then released another scene featuring Robert Pattinson’s The Joker and Batman, which was cut from the final version of the film. During a recent interview with GQ, Keoghan mentioned that he would be open to reprising the role in a sequel. The Batman.

“As soon as that call comes in, I’m here man, I’m here.”

Earlier in his interview with GQ, Barry Keoghan mentioned that he originally wanted to play The Riddler, but the role had already been filled with Paul Dano. However, Keoghan sent an audition tape to the people behind it anyway. The Batman and even met producer Dylan Clark. Four months later, Keoghan’s agent told him they wanted him to bring The Joker to life. “The Batman wants you to play the Joker – but you can’t tell anyone,” is what Keoghan learned about the role.

A sequel to The Batman is currently in development at Warner Brothers, with Matt Reeves writing the screenplay alongside Mattson Tomlin. Plot details of the film are being kept under lock and key. A spin-off series around The Penguin is also in the works at HBO Max, with filming set to begin next year.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as The Penguin and Barry Keoghan as The Joker.
