Major Reveals in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Official Trailer

To everyone’s surprise, Marvel Studios recently released the official trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This official trailer was around 2 minutes and 11 seconds long (almost as long as the previously released teaser) and features plenty of heartbreaking visuals and a killer background score. It also has many new reveals for the film and the early characters – Namor, the Submarine, and the Ironheart. Let’s see them one by one.

Check out the official trailer here.

T’Challa’s funeral

T’Challa’s funeral

What’s clear from the teaser and trailer released by Marvel so far is that the movie will have a big funeral for T’Challa. After the sad demise of the incredible actor – Chadwick Boseman, who had played the main character in the previous episode, Kevin Feige announced that they would not be recasting the character. So how the film will approach T’Challa’s passing remains to be seen. But one thing is clear – the funeral will surely showcase the great culture and tradition of Wakandan.

Influence of Mayan culture

The character of Namor (played by Tenoch Huerta), which makes its MCU debut in the film, and its people will draw heavy influence from the Mayan civilization. In the trailer, Namor inscribes Mayan art on the wall himself. Marvel has previously stated that Namor and the culture of his people will be heavily inspired by Mesoamerican culture.

Namor’s Throne

Namor’s Throne

A better photo is shown of Namor’s throne. Unlike the comics (where Namor is the king of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis), the film (apparently) will show him as being the king of an underwater kingdom called – Talocan (see our article on this change here). Talocan was an underwater kingdom in Mayan mythology. Namor’s throne consists of a shark’s mouth skeleton, and it looks amazing.

Namor’s Flying Boots

Namor’s flying boots

One of the main features of Namor’s costume in the comics is his flying boots. As ridiculous as that sounds, the folks at Marvel seem to have decided to adapt it as a live-action as well. In the released trailer, Namor can be seen flying with the aid of his “winged” boots in at least two instances. In one he seemed to be descending slowly, in the other he seemed to be leaping towards a flying ship.

K’uk’ulkan

M’Baku saying K’uk’ulkan

In one of the trailer shots, M’Baku (Duke Winston) said, “His people call him neither general nor king. They call it K’uk’ulkan – the feathered serpent god. It very obviously refers to the Namor. K’uk’ulkan, is the name of a Mesoamerican serpent deity worshiped by the Yucatec Maya people of the Yucatán Peninsula. M’Baku adds that if they kill Namor, they risk starting an “eternal war”.

Wakandan flood

Another thing that’s been hinted at in both the teaser and the movie’s trailer is that Wakanda will somehow be flooded. People can be seen fighting for their lives among the roaring waves of water. Water waves even flow through Wakandan’s throne room. The reason for this flood is clearly Namor, who is apparently angry with the Wakandans and invades Wakanda.

Talocanians

Talocanians

The Talocanians (Talocan people) are underwater people. Their bodies have adapted to breathe easily underwater, but not on the surface. This seems to be the reason why the Talocanians seem to wear blue masks over their mouths. Namor is clearly an exception among them. This is clearly because of his parentage (human father and Talocanian mother) and the fact that he is a mutant.

Ironheart Costume

Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) is also set to make its live-action debut via Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the officially released trailer, she appears to be making her Iron Suit. We finally see a clear peak to her Stone heart costume take off in the sky. His costume appears to be heavily inspired by Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor. Riri might have seemed Shuri’s aid in constructing the armor, and now uses it to protect Wakanda.

New black panther

At the end of the trailer, we finally see Black Panther’s new costume. Black Panther’s physique clearly hints that a woman is donning the mantle this time. Although no faces are revealed, the most likely contender is Shuri. (Letitia Wright), T’Chala’s sister. Regardless of the series of events that led her to accept the role, one thing is certain: Black Panther’s new costume looks awesome!

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters worldwide on November 11, 2022.
