dragon house episode 7 begins with the funeral of Lady Laena Velaryon at Driftmark at High Tide Castle. Throughout the funeral, we can hear Vhagar growl and roar as his voice thundered through the sky. She had just lost her dragonrider Lady Laena Velaryon whom she had to burn to death with her own dragonfire. Vhagar was chained to a cliff in Driftmark and tied up. It was to be claimed by Laena’s daughters, Rhaena and Baela. However, Aemond Targaryen comes first and honestly seems like a much better fit for Vhagar than Rhaena and Baela. So let’s see why the duo of Aemond and Vhagar is so perfect.

On the night of Lady Laena’s funeral, Aemond walks through High Tide Castle with one thing in mind. He has heard Vhagar roar and growl all day and wants to claim her before anyone else can. As he walks up to her and tries to untie her, she fidgets. She nearly breathes dragon fire before Aemond manages to control her. In fact, they apparently bond very quickly, as Vhagar gives in to his commands. She respects his orders and even lets him ride her. And so Aemond claims Vhagar. Meanwhile, Rhaena tells Baela that someone stole Vhagar. This leads to a major fight between Daemon’s children and Rhaenyra against Alicent’s sons. As Aemond threatens to kill Jacaerys, Lucerys cuts out Aemond’s eye to defend his brother.

She is the oldest, largest, and fiercest dragon in all of Targaryen history. There were traditions that sang praises to his strength and fiery breath. Vhagar has a history of brilliant and brave warriors riding it. Its first rider was Queen Visenya Targaryen, known to be an incredibly tough and valiant warrior. She rode Vhagar on several missions and won wars on her back. Then it was claimed by Baelon the Brave.

After Baelon’s death, Lady Laena Velaryon bonded with Vhagar when she was twelve years old. She was known to have loved flying and spending most of her time in the sky. Even after marrying Daemon, he and she rode their dragons Vhagar and Caraxes respectively and put on a splendid sight. The one thing that remains common to all his riders is their courage and fearlessness.

Aemond and Vhagar are perfect for each other. Aemond was the greatest warrior of the greens. He was slimy, vile, ruthless and absolutely menacing. So it’s only natural that when he went to claim a dragon, he chose the oldest, biggest and most dangerous. It also brings a huge dragon to the side of the greens, which only strengthens them further. In fact, she almost single-handedly swung the Civil War in favor of the Greens. Vhagar felt that Aemond was worthy to ride her and bonded with him due to his courage and bravery. Taming and riding a dragon on first encounter is not easy, especially not one that is 200 years old.
She even tested it before accepting it. Aemond held his own even when Vhagar was about to breathe dragon fire. She flew haphazardly and erratically to test if Aemond could hold up. Eventually, she realized that despite all the obstacles she put in his way, he resisted them and persevered. And that’s why Vhagar chose Aemond. Thus, they developed a bond of mutual respect. Both are very brave and hardened by the multiple wars and challenges thrown their way.
