Guillermo del Toro always said that Pinocchio is his dream project. The Mexican filmmaker’s dream project is finally over. Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. Guillermo del Toro is working on his adaptation of Pinocchio since 2008. The Pacific Rim The director announced the film in 2008 and was supposed to release it in 2013 or 2014. But due to some issues, the film was put on hold. Production was about to start in 2017, but it was halted again because no studio wanted to finance the film.
However, in 2018 del Toro’s Pinocchio was revived after Netflix decided to acquire the film. This is the dream project of the alley of nightmares director, and so he’s super excited about the release of the film.

The Mexican author and actor expressed his excitement on the red carpet at the London Film Festival. Guillermo arrived with a small Pinocchio puppet. The model was placed on a small pedestal and the director waved good morning. Del Toro looked so happy that he waved with the puppet’s hand.
The puppet could be the one used in the filming. Earlier, Netflix released a behind-the-scenes video from the set of Pinocchioin which Guillermo del Toro revealed that they used different sized puppets of Pinocchio for different scenes.

Fans are also excited to see the film because it tells Pinocchio’s story from a whole different perspective. Pinocchio had its world premiere at the London Film Festival. The film will be released in select theaters soon and will also be available on Netflix after its theatrical release.

Guillermo del Toro wants to revive stop-motion with Pinocchio
After no studio wanted to finance the film in 2017, Matthew Robbins, one of the screenwriters, considered making it in 2D with French artist Joann Sfar. But del Toro refused to do so because he always wanted it to be a stop motion film. He didn’t care if the higher budget made it harder to get a financier for the film.
The film was eventually acquired by Netflix, and del Toro was able to pursue it in stop-motion. At a press conference, the Imitate the film’s director said he wanted Pinocchio to feel authentic and didn’t want the “animation coding in a “cool” language that almost looks like emojis. »

The Oscar-winning director shared that stop-motion is almost becoming a lost art and called it the most incredible art form. He said, “Stop-motion is absolutely the most amazing and demanding animation, you know, and it’s only made by a completely weird bunch of people who support it over and over again.”
Pinocchio features the voices of Gregory Mann as Pinocchio, David Bradley as Geppetto, and Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket. It also includes Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman.
Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro will be released in select theaters in November 2022 and will be available to stream on Netflix from December 9, 2022.
