Avengers: Secret Wars – Doctor Strange would have sacrificed his life to save the multiverse

The death of a major character, especially from a franchise that’s been around long enough, hits fans’ hearts like a truck, and it’s pretty hard to get over it. The Marvel Cinematic Universe had one of its major heartbreaks in this regard with the noble sacrifice of Scarlet Witch in strange doctor in the Multiverse of Madness.

Scarlet Witch’s demise, ultimately for the greater good, has left a void in the hearts of Elizabeth Olsen fans. As if his departure were not enough, the death of Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder was a second arrow to the heart. But if the recent rumors of Doctor Strange’s death turn out to be true, the pain will become much more unbearable for MCU fans.

Doctor Strange Could Finally Meet His End In Secret Wars

It’s no surprise that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange has been an integral part of the MCU since first appearing in a standalone movie named after the character. He’s also considered one of the most powerful heroes in the franchise, and being Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme is no easy task.

The Master of the Mystical Arts could finally meet his end though, which of course would be quite devastating for MCU fans. Rumored by Twitter user Spider Culture, a popular industry scooper, Stephen may be considering a possible departure from the MCU after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars unfolds-

Another lesser-known source added in the reply to the tweet, naming famous Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom as the man with blood on his hands.

That would mean, for now, Benedict Cumberbatch’s character would be the next big MCU star to be shown the door.

How Doctor Strange Dies in the Secret Wars Comics

It is common knowledge that the next Secret Wars will be based on the comics of the same name from 2015, and those reports line up very well with what happens in the comics.

Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom

Marvel Comics’ 2015 Crossover Event Called Secret Wars seems to be the starting point for Doctor Strange’s death in the comics. The unbridled power of Doctor Doom, whose name is God Emperor Doom in the comics, is the culprit.

To explain in short, Doom pretty much had unlimited power in the comics, having stolen the Beyonders’ power. Strange served under the powerful villain for years, with only the discovery of a cosmic life raft containing heroes to change his mind.

In a hurry, Strange lets them get away without Doom’s knowledge, much to the latter’s disappointment. The wizard would later be executed by Doom on the spot after refusing to bring back the heroes he let go.

Now would this be translated into the movie version of Secret Wars? It’s possible, but it’s also important to note that Doctor Doom hasn’t even made his MCU debut yet!

Avengers: Secret Wars is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
