Avengers: Endgame also became the highest-grossing film of all time, but was quickly overtaken by by James Cameron Avatar. Joe Russothe director of End of Game recently said no End of Game record cannot be beaten by any other film.

In his recent interview with Variety, Joe Russo said “It will never happen again. It was the height of this era of theatrical cinema. When we launched AGBO, we already felt the winds turning. He did not go into detail as to why he thinks End of Game will continue to hold the record.

This could be due to the post-pandemic effect on the box office. Many movies didn’t see huge audiences after the pandemic, the same can happen with Avatar 2 as well.

Why Avatar: The Way of Water can challenge Avengers: Endgame?

Its reissue led it to cross the 2.9 billion mark at the global box office. It was the first time a film recorded such a collection. And seeing that the franchises are doing quite well at the box office, James Cameron may be about to break several world records with The way of water.

Joe Russo is certain that no film will ever be able to break Endgame’s record. However, the trailer for Avatar 2 received a good response. The sequel is about a month away from release. It would be interesting to see if Avatar: The way of the water breaks Game over save or not.

Avatar: The way of the water is set to release on December 16, 2022.
