HBO accidentally revealed the premiere date of its The last of us series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
HBO’s first date The last of us leaked online thanks to a listing on the WarnerMedia HBO Max streaming service. According to the list, The last of us debuts on January 15, 2023, which means the series will release new episodes every Sunday. A source with knowledge of the show’s release plans told Video Games Chronicle that the date is accurate and an official announcement should arrive later this week.
What is the story of The last of us?
Developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, The last of us focuses on the relationship between a smuggler named Joel and 14-year-old Ellie, with the latter possibly holding the key to curing the deadly pandemic that has resulted in the game’s post-apocalypse world. Hired to smuggle Ellie out of an area of midlife, Joel finds himself depending on the teenager just as much as she relies on him as they fight to survive on their journey across the United States.
The HBO adaptation of The last of us should cover the events of the first game, with the second game potentially surviving as a base for additional content. The upcoming series is said to be one of the most expensive ever made, with each episode costing around $10 million with a total budget of around $200 million. In comparison, HBO game of thrones had a budget of $15 million per episode for its final season.
The The last of us the adaptation is being developed by Craig Mazin, the man behind the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries Chernobyl, as well as Neil Druckmann, the screenwriter and creative director of the Naughty Dog game. Its cast also includes Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Storm Reid, Jeffrey Pierce, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Woodard, Graham Greene, Elaine Miles, Melanie Lynskey, Rutina Wesley and Brad Leland.
Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who played Joel and Ellie in both The last of us games, are also set to appear in the HBO adaptation. Their roles in the series are kept secret.
