Capitalism strikes again as Netflix officially rolls out its ad-supported tier for people to enjoy. The tier will be released at 9 AM PT starting at $6.99 per month. With more amenities and ad-free experiences, prices continue to rise to $19.99 per month.
This price change comes as news that Twitter will soon be charging people for the “checkmark checked” on the social media platform is facing a backlash. As corporate greed increases, people are fed up with capitalist policies.
People hate Netflix’s ad-supported tier
The entertainment giant is on people’s backs because of the password sharing that many users have been doing for a long time. Although the plans to change the tier prices were put in place in a timely manner, the ad-supported plans don’t seem to be attracting people as much as Netflix thought.

The idea of Elon Musk charging people for the verified tick seems to agitate people more as Netflix had already been in a tough spot as the production company lost a million subscribers in the first quarters of 2022. password loss by users and the loss of subscribers forced Netflix to change tier costs with an additional resolution change!

People will have to pay for the resolutions with the ads because the prices are also split based on the resolution. In 2022, 1080p has become the basic resolution for watching series and movies for which Netflix will charge the modest sum of $15.49! People took to Twitter and asked Netflix if they should watch ads in a movie/series they paid for.
Why should I pay to watch movies with ads.
Might as well watch free movies and shows on a piracy website— Yomas (@BackFromQuantum) November 3, 2022

Netflix will likely lose more subscribers with the current tier plans that will be launched. The plan is released exactly one month before entertainment mega-giant Disney also releases its ad-supported tier.

Since the OTT meta, piracy rates have dropped dramatically because in the early 2000s, people had no choice but movie theaters, piracy, or CDs. Following the meta transition to OTT apps, people have been able to watch entertainment from the comfort of their homes. With a level of ad support, the experience is sure to be ruined. Spotify was one of the first companies to do this, but they offer free listening with ads compared to Netflix’s $6.99 with ads.
Disney recently announced that it will also launch an ad-supported level which will be released in 2023. There have been no other price shakes for the same.
