The third part of the vigilante action movie, The equalizer is slated for release in the latter part of 2023, but the future of the Denzel Washington franchise has started to look quite bleak with the series of events that recently unfolded on the set of the upcoming movie.
A caterer who worked for the film was found dead while two other members of the film crew were arrested for possession of cocaine, the events took place on Italy’s famous Amalfi Coast, one of the main sites of filming of Equalizer 3. And since production only started last month, that certainly doesn’t look good for the franchise’s fate.
An outrageous drug bust and death took place on the set of Equalizer 3
Barely a month has passed since production on the third installment of Denzel Washington’s popular action/thriller flick began, and the franchise appears to be facing some pretty serious difficulties already.

As recently as Tuesday, Italian police raided a hotel on the Amalfi Coast where Equalizer 3The catering team of had housed and arrested two Roman caterers following the unexpected but vicious death of the head caterer, the head caterer known as MB. The 55-year-old died after a sudden heart attack struck him as he left an All Saints’ Day event in the evening. And although he was rushed to hospital after medical personnel arrived at the scene, unfortunately MB did not survive.
After MB’s death, police found cocaine in the pockets of the head caterer, which then acted as a catalyst for officials to search his colleagues and staff. And the search of the hotel rooms ended with the police seizing approximately 120 grams of cocaine from two other caterers and a relatively smaller amount of drugs from another member.
The production of Equalizer 3 stop?
While the chain of events certainly doesn’t paint the prettiest picture of Washington’s third part of the film, neither the caterer’s death nor the reported illegal activity happened on set, which is why these incidents are currently considered a separate case.
Not only that, but the restaurant workers would operate under the direction of an independent contractor, which makes things less difficult for the film franchise. And according to Fox News Digital, sources also confirmed that said raid was “regarding a catering provider, not the film or the crew.”

So right now, the odds seem to be working out for the American filmmaker just enough that he can continue production. And if production isn’t forcibly halted, the film could even be released on the currently promised date.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Equalizer 3 is slated to premiere on September 1, 2023.
