Henry Cavill wouldn’t have left The Witcher for Superman

Henry Cavill announcing he was leave the witcher and handing the swords over to Liam Hemsworth was a blow to the fandom. In the event of resignation, various theories began to circulate on the reason for his departure. And now we finally know why. And it’s not Superman.

Here’s why Henry Cavill left The Witcher

Henry Cavill has repeatedly said he’s a big fan of The Witcher franchise. From books to games, he loves it all. As such, it was surprising to read his exit from the series based on the novels he loved.

But there is a reason behind its release. According to Redanian Intelligence (RI), this is due to disagreements with the show’s producers regarding the direction of his character and the overall content of the show. RI says:

“Henry Cavill was considering leaving the show after season 2 because he and the producers ‘did not agree’ on the content and role of Geralt in The Witcher.”

Interestingly, Cavill’s growing discontent was present as early as Season 2 and also evident during the press tour. He mentioned several times that he was trying to find a balance between the writers’ vision and the novel series.

Obviously he felt he hadn’t found that balance and decided to leave even though not too long ago there were reports that he had pledged to complete the series as Geralt de Riv. And there was also news of his contract going up to $1 million per episode out of the $400,000 he was getting.

But his departure was long in preparation. Deadline reported that Henry Cavill opted for a short-term contract as he felt it was time to leave the show after three seasons. So it seems like he couldn’t make any changes to his character or the show and decided to leave.

Has his playing Superman again affected his Witcher commitments?

After Henry Cavill returned to Black Adam as Superman, The Hollywood Reporter noted that a Superman movie was in the works. But there was no director or writer attached to it. So it’s a skeleton for now, and it’s possible a movie of this scale won’t be hitting the shelves soon. But that’s not the case for The Witcher season 4. It is being written and could start filming in 2023.

So the scheduling conflicts probably wouldn’t have affected his contract with The Witcher. Additionally, Cavill reportedly said in an interview with GamesRadar+ that he could handle two projects in the same year. So there would have been no problem juggling the two, at least in Cavill’s mind.

So it wouldn’t be a misstep to conclude that the reason Henry Cavill left The Witcher was issues with the show’s direction rather than any conflict with Superman.
