In nearly 20 years of marriage, Melissa Stark and her husband, author and SPCNJ founder Mike Lilley, have four children.
While Stark is employed as a sportscaster, her children, husband and former Woodrow Wilson School football player are all competitive athletes who excel in sports including track and field, basketball, soccer and the butt.
The first thing to mention is that Melissa is a well-known television personality and a sportscaster best known for her roles as a sportscaster for NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football, respectively.

The 50-year-old founder and president of New Jersey’s Sunlight Policy Center is Melissa Stark’s husband, Mike Lilley.
The cornerstone of the SPCNJ is the study it undertook for the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in 2016-2017, which resulted in the five-part “Legal Corruption” series.
Mike worked as the executive director of the nonprofit Better Education for New Jersey Kids before founding the SPCNJ. He was also an adjunct researcher at the American Enterprise Institute, where he completed the Legal Corruption course.
In a similar vein, he also contributes to Discourse magazine, a brand new online publication on politics, economics, and culture from the George Mason University Mercatus Center.

Lilley’s charity and community service are well known. At Princeton University, where he attended Woodrow Wilson School and played college football, Mike earned a degree.
Later, after graduating with honors from Georgetown University Law Center, he served for ten years as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps, eventually attaining the rank of captain.
Mike served in the Marine Corps before working at Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America/Merrill Lynch as a bond trader. Mike’s family has a long history of civic engagement.

The NJEA was created as a professional association for teachers, just as the American Bar Association is for lawyers and the American Medical Association is for doctors.
The NJEA, however, gained unprecedented authority in professional unions when collective bargaining was legalized in the 1960s. Each teacher in New Jersey had to pay up to $1,400 in annual union dues (based on income of $50,000) until 2018.

Finally, Tilley pointed out that there are other options outside of the NJEA. He says legal representation and liability insurance in the event of lawsuits against teachers are the main benefits of NJEA membership.
The American Association of Educators, however, provides both services for just $200 a year, he noted. For about 15% less than NJEA dues, teachers can join a professional organization that offers the same benefits.

Melissa Stark, a secondary journalist, married Mike “Michael” Lilley in 2001. Only close friends and family attended their wedding, which was held at a private location.

Jackson Lilley, Cara and Clemmie Lilley, Mike “Michael” Lilley Jr. and twins Cara and Clemmie Lilley are the parents of Mike and Melissa’s four adult children.
On August 23, 2003, they welcomed their eldest son, Mike, who is now 19. Likewise, Jackson, their second child, would be 17.

In the summer of 2020, Mike Stark’s knee was injured while playing club lacrosse in his native New Jersey, according to his athlete biography. As his knee ached, he took a step, nearly dislocating his knee and damaging his bones.
Mike made a full recovery, but a week later a misplaced lacrosse stick hit the bruised bone, making the situation intolerable. He had lost a lot of cartilage, was in terrible pain and was forced to decide that his athletic career had to be put on hold indefinitely.
But it was Mike’s optimistic outlook that persuaded him to return to the field and the field in the end.
