Disney Boss Particularly Credits THIS Marvel Show For The Growth Of Disney+

The MCU is one of Disney’s biggest franchises, right next to Star Wars. His impact on pop culture and Disney revenue cannot be underestimated. On several occasions, the House of Mouse has pointed out the great role the MCU plays in driving and maintaining its subscriber base. And they did the same on their recent earnings call and even highlighted one show in particular: Ms. Marvel!

Starting in 2021, the MCU expanded its universe to include TV shows under Disney+. It has produced a barrage of shows for the streamer since then. So She-Hulk, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the Emmy-nominated WandaVision, and more.

But Disney’s earnings call held on November 8, 2022 revealed that it was the Ms. Marvel show that helped the streamer grow the most. Murphy’s Multiverse reports that:

“Disney is doing well in the streaming market reaching 235 million total subscribers, while Hulu added a million and ESPN+ another 1.5 million. Interestingly enough, Ms. Marvel was highlighted as the one of the shows that gave a boost to the growth of Disney+.

It’s interesting that Ms. Marvel was highlighted here, because the show suffered from significantly lower viewership than other MCU shows. The show’s main selling point was that it featured a diverse superhero.

Murphy’s Multiverse further points out that:

“It may again underscore the importance of Disney diversifying its portfolio to appeal to viewers, especially a younger generation.”

Where will we see Ms. Marvel next?

The show premiered on June 8, 2022 and ran until July 13 for six episodes. At the end of the show, we saw Kamala presumably and unknowingly swap places with Carol Danvers. We see Brie Larson’s hero appear in Kamala’s room and then rush out of frame after realizing what has happened.

Many viewers also concluded that there may have been a body swap with Kamala taking over the captain’s body and vice versa. But whatever theory you subscribe to, Kamala will next be seen in the Captain Marvel sequel titled The Marvels. Its release is scheduled for 2023. And that’s when we will know which theory is true!

Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and she will be joined by Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau in The Marvels. The film is directed by Nia Da Costa.

What do you think of Disney specifically naming Ms. Marvel even though her viewership numbers were relatively lower? Let us know.
