Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi in Legend of the Ten Rings, has dropped hints about his possible inclusion in the mcu Avengers 5. As revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Studios will be releasing two more Avengers movies.
These films will be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. While both films are slated for releases in May 2025 and 2026, only Avengers 5 has a director on board, the talented Destin Daniel Cretton. Audiences have been convinced by his work on Shang-Chi and the development of the sequel that Simu Liu’s hero will be included in the cast of Avengers: Kang Dynasty.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton was signed by Marvel Studios after the success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which made a ton of money. The director secured an exclusive contract with Marvel Studios after the film’s premiere to create a Disney+ television series based on the character Shang-Chi.

Now that Liu is set to lead Avengers: Kang Dynasty, he’s committed even more to the House of Ideas. At the BoxLunch Holiday Gala for Feeding America, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu spoke with ComicBook.com‘s Brandon David on his director’s recent success and, presumably, hinted at his own role in the film.
“It’s amazing. I obviously heard the news a little before the rest of the world, but I panicked, I sent him about 40 texts in a row, all with exclamation marks. I’m so incredibly happy for him, he so deserves this spot what makes him such a special filmmaker, and i’ve been saying this from the start even when we were premiering our movie, is his ability to make a 150 million movie really, really small dollars, in the best possible way.
The actor also expressed excitement about the heights the Avengers could reach. further describing the film as “memorable and special”:
I’m really looking forward to seeing what he does on this even grander scale of The Avengers because I think it’s maybe easy to get lost in the spectacle of what these films can be, the vastness and the grandeur of it, but if you can maintain the humanity and the human stories, I think that’s what will make a movie memorable and special, and I think Destin got that. I think he has it and I think he deserves it so much. I am so excited to work for him again.
Whether or not Liu acknowledged his role in the upcoming Avengers film was raised by the fact that the latter has a fixed release date, unlike Shang-Chi’s second installment.
“I think so…I hope so. Don’t take my word for it.
We don’t know much about the sequel beyond Kang’s involvement, but with Cretton at the helm, we can safely assume Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi will be joining the action in Avengers 5.
