Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU franchise, which along with Phase 4 includes The Multiverse Saga, were announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Phase 4 will end with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Phase 5 will end with the MCU’s Thunderbolts, and Phase 6 will kick off with The Fantastic Four.
One of the characters from the upcoming MCU movie Thunderbolts has said the film will not only bring together an unlikely group of Super hero but will also serve as a “unique” climax to Marvel’s Phase 5 films. Thunderbolts will include David Harbor’s Red Guardian as part of a team led by Fontaine’s Valentina Allegra.
Thunderbolts, slated for release in 2024, will wrap up Marvel Studios’ Phase 5 and, presumably, resolve any lingering story strands. David Harbour, who plays Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian in Black Widow, recently praised the film, promising action, laughs and more as it wraps up Phase 5.
MCU’s Thunderbolts will peak at Phase 5
David Harbour, who plays the title character in the upcoming 2024 Marvel movie Thunderbolts, recently spoke with Comicbook.com, where he revealed some intriguing details about the production. Harbor said he would read the script “very soon”.
“I know we will work next year. I didn’t read a script, but I was told the story arc and how the story unfolds. And apparently we’re going to read a script very soon. But it’s cool… It’s very unique. And also, there’s all this cool action and cool comedy of what has been described to me. And then there’s a bomb-dropping thing that we’re adding to the universe, which will be very exciting for the movie to do at the end of this particular phase… whatever. “Never mind” phase we finish.
The clues to which Harbor alludes deserve particular attention. It looks like Thunderbolts is in for a shocking reveal. However, the MCU being as it is, that could mean anything.
In order to set the stage, it has been announced that Thunderbolts will be Marvel Studios’ final Phase 5 film, with Fantastic Four serving as the first Phase 6 film. Between Thunderbolts and FF, we can expect the release of other MCU projects on Disney+.
That’s not even including the slated release of Spider-Man 4 in mid-2024. It’s possible that Thunderbolts will mark the end of the MCU’s fifth phase, and the following movies will serve as filler until Fantastic Four is released.
