The MCU’s Fantastic Four movie is currently one of the franchise’s highest-profile projects. But Marvel didn’t start casting on the project so far and we have no idea what the overall plot will be. But a new rumor has surfaced about the movie that says it won’t be set in the present day!
Marvel’s Fantastic Four Movie Likely Set Around This Time
According to scooper Grace Randolph, the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie will be set in the 1960s. It’s interesting on many levels. One because it will set the project apart from the plethora of Marvel projects we’ve seen so far. Aside from Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain Marvel, which are set during World War II and the 1990s respectively, no MCU project has focused solely on the past.
Before you say Ms. Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy 1, or Ant-Man 1, know that the main characters in those Marvel projects weren’t themselves from another era. So, if this rumor turns out to be true, then we could see an MCU project that takes place in another era after a long time.
What will the film be about?
We saw Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards played by John Krasinski in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He was part of the Illuminati of Earth-838. But he didn’t last long as Wanda made quick work of him. However, his existence has caused fans to wonder about the whereabouts of his other Fantastic Four partners, particularly his wife, Sue Storm.
We don’t have any official answers on that, nor is it confirmed if John Krasinski will return. But fan theories have long swirled that he might be from another era. If the real MCU Fantastic Four movie moves forward with such a concept, then we could see the members getting trapped in the 1960s (perhaps from another land) and only breaking free in the present day.
Rumors about the group appearing in Dead Pool 3 and loki season 2, both projects dealing heavily with the multiverse, also lends credence to this theory. However, that would mirror the Steve Rogers/Captain America story too closely, and such a move also won’t allow the film to take advantage of the 1960s setting and try something new.
So setting the film firmly in the 1960s would be a better move, because we could see Reed Richards’ inventions back then that helped push technology forward in the present day. But with no nuggets of official information so far, it’s just fan speculation. So take it with a pinch of salt.
What do you think of his rumor? Let us know. And stay tuned for more updates.
