James Gunn is now DCU’s new CEO with Peter Safran. But his responsibilities with Marvel Studios aren’t over yet. After all, until guardians of the galaxy volume 3 releases, he is contractually obliged to promote them. But now that the MCU trilogy he’s directing is coming to an end, fans want to know who his favorite character in the franchise is. And the savvy director has finally answered the question.
James Gunn reveals his favorite Guardians of the Galaxy character
In an interview with Deadline, James Gunn revealed his favorite Guardians character and said he had to finish the trilogy just to bring his story to a satisfying close. He said:
“The reason I needed to finish this is because I love the Rocket character more than any other character I’ve dealt with before, and I needed to finish his story and that’s this is what Volume 3 is about. I absolutely needed to do this, and I think we did it in a spectacular way that I can’t wait for people to see.
He was also asked about his feelings about finally leaving the MCU for DC. He replied as follows:
“I feel really comfortable. I feel really good. We did it. I think it’s a bit of goofy fun that Guardians needed as an appetizer for Book 3, which is a huge movie. I had a plan from the start.
What’s next for The Guardians franchise?
In the same interview, Gunn also shared his thoughts on the future of the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise. He said:
“It will never be the same group of characters for many different reasons. Who knows what will happen with the Guardians franchise when it comes to future characters, but when it comes to this group of characters, that’s the end of their story.
So James Gunn has confirmed that the third movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy will mark the end of that set of characters. Could this mean certain death? After all, they’ll likely go after it Gamora in the third movie, and who knows what might happen on the trip.
Or maybe Gunn could just give the characters happy endings. But no matter what, it is certain that the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise does not stop. After all, the two films released so far have grossed over $1.6 billion at the global box office.
