james gunn is credited with directing a number of significant comic book projects, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy films for Marvel and The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker for DC. It was revealed last month that Gunn and Peter Safran would serve as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios, a new organization created to replace struggling DC Films. Gunn is nevertheless working on two other Marvel projects. Both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the holiday special of the same name would hit theaters the following year. Given his expanded responsibilities at DC, these are likely Gunn’s last Marvel-related endeavors, but some DC fans aren’t thrilled that the filmmaker is still promoting Marvel.
When will James Gunn leave Marvel
In a recent tweet, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and new DCU boss James Gunn have shared the date of his last day at Marvel Studios.
“I am both DC and Marvel through May as has been made clear in all postings. I’ve spent the majority of the last ten years working on the Guardians trilogy, and I won’t give up on them or the tens of thousands of people who contributed to it at the last minute. “If you love both, nothing will end.”
As has been made clear in all the press, until May I am both DC and Marvel. I’ve dedicated the majority of the last 10 years of my life to the Guardians trilogy, and I’m not giving up on them or the thousands who worked on it in the 11th hour. The world won’t end if you love both. https://t.co/MBc5mPBmvL

Surprisingly, several fans were upset with Gunn for siding with both sides.
More fans need to hear what Gunn said: “The world won’t end if you love both.”
While movies made by the two studios can be naturally competitive, that doesn’t mean fans can only favor one or the other.
Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige says “he’ll be on the front line” to see what Gunn is doing with the DCU, so everyone should be able to see how ok it is to be a fan from DC and MARVEL.
DC is in good hands
The new strategy for DC movies, according to Gunn, will tell “the greatest story ever told.” David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros., also seemed pleased with their work.
Fans should definitely anticipate a little more than usual given Gunn’s penchant for specialized characters. However, ideally he won’t let those traits stop him from attempting to bring the core of the Justice League together again, hopefully creating a story this time around.
There are still two Guardians of the Galaxy projects left in the director’s pipeline for Marvel fans disappointed by his departure from the MCU. The first is Vol. 3, which hits theaters on May 3, 2023, and the second is The holiday specialwhich will debut on Disney+ next week.
