If you’ve watched Game of Thrones as absorbed as I have, you’ve also developed a liking and respect for House Stark of Winterfell. All GoT fans think there is no one more noble than the Starks. They are the first Great House introduced in Game of Thrones when we see Ned Stark beheading a deserter from The Night’s Watch. House of the Dragon will introduce a similar character who will Ned Stark looks like an idiot, because he is much more brutal than Lord Eddard. The character will be introduced in HOTD Season 2, which is the Lord of Winterfell in the current timeline.
Lord Rickon Stark, was shown briefly as swearing allegiance to King Viserys’ named heiress, Princess Rhaenyra. Although not shown in the series, Lord Rickon dies sometime before the events of “Dance of the Dragons” between Aegon II and Rhanyra Targaryen, and his son, the ruthless Cregan Stark becomes Lord of Winterfell. . Let’s see how he’ll clean up a lot of Targaryen mess in House of the Dragon.
Lord Cregan of House Stark cleans up Targaryen’s mess
In House of the Dragon season 2, Cregan Stark will most likely be featured, but may not play a major role. The reason for this is that Lord Cregan of House Stark decides to go south (and come back alive, so he’s plagued by the infamous curse) at the end of the Dance of the Dragons; the dragon fight between Aegon II Targaryen and Rhaenyra Targaryen. Cregan Stark has always been loyal to Queen Rhaenyra as his father had sworn allegiance to King Viserys, and as honorable as the Starks are, Lord Cregan stays true to his word. By the time he enters King’s Landing, (spoiler alert), Aegon II was already dead.
Cregan Stark plays a major role as he even sits on the Iron Throne for six days and reigns in place of Aegon III Targaryen. When Aegon the Younger, eldest son of Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen, is made King of the Seven Kingdoms, Cregan Stark becomes his hand. The wrath of House Stark is on full display during the reign of Aegon III as Lord Cregan shows traitors no mercy.
Role of House Stark in House of the Dragon
The North is a huge realm with several noble houses waging their own conflicts and pursuing their own goals, no matter how much House Stark is revered. In the meantime, Stark is concerned for the safety and well-being of his subjects and has behaved like any ruler.
Lord Cregan of House Stark lives by the words of Eddard Stark, “He who pronounces sentence shall swing the sword”, and swing the sword he does. Cregan Stark wanted to kill many more traitors, but Aegon III wouldn’t allow it multiple times.
After cleaning up the mess, Cregan returns home to Winterfell, the seat of House Stark. So it’s a happy situation for him (and for House Stark for once!)
