James Gunn Shoots Down Rumors About Henry Cavill’s Superman Contract

James Gunn has addressed a report claiming Henry Cavill’s Superman is heading to TV.

A recent report claimed that Henry Cavill has signed a new contract with Superman that involves television appearances. James Gunn, who is currently hard at work shaping the future of the DC Universe alongside his producing partner Peter Safran, replied to the article on Twitterby knocking it down.

“I don’t know if you’re lying on purpose or if you’re being taken advantage of by someone who’s lying to you, but, as I’ve said before here, NO ONE knows what’s going on at DC Studios right now except me. and Peter. This would include drafting any new contracts for anyone at this point,” James Gunn wrote in response to the article.

Henry Cavill’s Superman was last seen in the post-credits scene of black adam. The film marked his return to the role for the first time since 2017 Justice League reshoots, as he was not involved in additional photography for Zack Snyder’s cut.

The latest DC Universe movie, black adam, is currently playing in theaters and has so far grossed over $350 million at the worldwide box office. Fans likely won’t see anything of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU plans until 2024 at the earliest. The next four DCU movies — Shazam! Fury of the gods, the flash, blue beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — were overseen by DC’s old regime, led by producer Walter Hamada.

James Gunn and Peter Safran now lead DC’s film, television and animation efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing together the company’s comic-related assets under one roof. According to reports, Gunn is focused on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Safran handles business and production related things.

Last week, the head of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav has revealed that the two new DC Studios heads are close to completing a multi-year plan. Zaslav is the one they report to, but they’ll also collaborate with co-directors from Warner Bros. Film Group Michael DeLuca and Pam Abdy.
