“Bungo Stray Dogs”: Upcoming Fourth Season Update, Cast, Plot, Speculations, Release Date

28 June 2019 was the last time we saw the final episode of Bungo Stray Dogs. Since then the Bungo universe has been waiting for the return of the series.

The series was a top contender for being the best anime of the decade once. Since its release in 2016, it never failed to impress and remained one of the hottest series to date. The series was added to HBO Max’s library in 2020 and made a noticeable impact on a global scale.

Bungo Stray Dogs is adapted from the Japanese manga written by Kafka Asagiri, illustrated by Sango Harukawa. The story originated from the innovative idea put forth by the creator Kafka that put together famous late authors and poets portraying them as young adults with supernatural powers. The story follows an “Armed Detective Agency ” and its members protecting the city of Yokohama from the Mafia.

Bungo Stray Dogs Plot Overview 

The plot carries the protagonist, a young boy named Atsushi Nakajima through his life where he finds himself turning into a monstrous being like a werewolf, a weretiger to be more precise.

Osamu Dazai, a detective, recruits Atsushi to his team in the Armed Detective Agency to use his physical abilities to solve supernatural mysteries. 

All the members of the team are capable of using unique skills and magic which allow them to conjure things from nothing, transform into predatory animals, and many such capabilities. Atsushi begins working with the team for good and the story continues. 

Bungo Stray Dogs Cast

The anime casts Uemura Yuto as the protagonist Nakajima Atsushi, Morohoshi Sumire as Izumi Kyoka, Taniyama Kisho as Nakahara Chuuya, and Miyano Mamoru as Dazai Osamu.

Kensho  Ono voices the villain Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Yoshimasa Hosaya playing the detective Doppo Kunikida, detective Ranpo Edogawa dubbed by Hiroshi Kamiya, and Kisho Taniyama as mobster Chuya Nakahara. 

It’s not clear who all return to the screen reprising their roles but given the centrality of the characters played by the above cast, it is almost certain that most of the individuals who play pivotal roles will be returning for season 4. 

What Could Be The Plot Of Season 4?

The final season episodes adapted the portion that follows the Cannibalism Arc (from Wikipedia), the arc introduces Rats in the House of the Dead, a criminal organization.

The organization is led by Fyodor Dostoevsky, nicknamed ‘Demon’. He has an ongoing role in the manga and the viewers can expect Fyodor’s return in season 4. 

As of April 2021, the subsequent story arc titled Decay of Angels is ongoing. That is another criminal organization set in the arc’s heart which includes villains Nikolai Gogol, Ochi Fukuchi, Sigma, and Bram Stoker alongside Fyodor. This arc is rumored to be the basis of the season 4 storyline. 

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 Official Update

The official website of the series announced the arrival of season 4 with a poster. The production process has begun and the release dates will soon be published on the official website. After the release of the previous season, the announcement of season 4 came at the end of the year in November 2021 so, we can hope for a release date announcement probably at the end of this year.
